Question: Why do people speak the way they do?

Usually it’s because of their environment. We talk to different people differently, like you talk to your friends differently than to your teachers. That’s one way that answers the question. The other way is to do with culture — language influences (and is influenced by) the culture of our society. There are some (very outdated and wrong) ideas that men and women speak differently, but they don’t! However, people think that men and women speak differently so that false information then influences how men and women talk!
