      When I finish my PhD next year I would have done 10 years! But you don’t need to do that many to be a psychologist or a researcher, I just did because I changed careers so studied other things first.

      In total I’ve done about 7 years in university — I expect this is about average, but some people take longer and some people don’t take as long. There isn’t really a definitive answer, and there are lots of different paths through higher education.

      I did 3 years for my undergraduate to get a degree in psychology, then 3 years for my PhD

      I spent 6 years in the university (a bit less than this actually, but officially 6)
