• Question: why did you choose to be a scientist

      I don’t think I ever chose to be a scientist. I sort of fell into it. University was what I was expected to do and at the end of it I had opportunities to do research. I enjoyed it and carried on with it. There wasn’t a big moment when I thought “I’m going to be a scientist”

      I’m very similar to Liam — I didn’t decide to do science, I just kept doing things that I enjoyed doing. One of those things was learning about the world. If I ever get tired of learning about the world (which I doubt!) then I’ll probably choose to do something different.

      I’m similar to Jack and Liam too – I’m just doing things I enjoyed and that’s finding things out, learning new things, and trying to help other people with that knowledge.
      I actually didn’t think of myself as a “scientist” for a long time, I think because when you picture a scientist you think of someone working in a lab with a white coat and lots of chemicals and that’s not what I do at all! But “scientist” actually means a much wider range of people than that.
